Windows XP

  1. Download fbruss.zip from this site.
  2. Extract the installation package from fbruss.zip with a decompression utility.
  3. Run fbruss.exe to install the Russian ASDF keyboard layout.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Load the keyboard layout:
    1. Click on the Start button.
    2. Click on Control Panel.
      • The Control Panel is directly accessible in the standard Start menu but it is inside Settings in the classic Start menu.
    3. Click on "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options."
    4. Select the "Add other languages" task.
      • Or click on "Regional and Language Options" and select the Languages tab.
    5. Click on the Details button in the "Text Services and Input Languages" frame.
    6. Click on the Add button.
    7. Select Russian in the drop-down list of languages and select Russian ASDF in the drop-down list of keyboard layouts.
    8. Click OK as many times as you are prompted to and then close "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options."

Windows 2000

  1. Download fbruss.zip from this site.
  2. Extract the installation package from fbruss.zip with a decompression utility.
  3. Run fbruss.exe to install the Russian ASDF keyboard layout.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Load the keyboard layout:
    1. Open My Computer and Control Panel.
    2. Double-click on Regional Options and select the General tab.
    3. Check Cyrillic under Language Settings for the System.
    4. Select the Input Locales tab and click on the Add button.
    5. Select Russian in the drop-down list of languages and select Russian ASDF in the drop-down list of keyboard layouts.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Make sure that the "Enable indicator on taskbar" option is checked and click OK.

Windows NT 4.0

  1. Install Microsoft's Cyrillic Language Support in either of the following ways:
    1. Install European Language Support with Internet Explorer:
      1. Find the Internet Explorer installer (ie*setup.exe) on your hard disk or download it from Microsoft.  If you have several versions of it then choose the latest version.
      2. Launch the Internet Explorer installer and accept the license agreement.
      3. Select the installation option that allows you to "customize your browser" and click Next.
      4. Scroll down to Multi-Language Support, check European Language Support and click Next.
    2. Install Cyrillic Language Support from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM:
      1. Open the Langpack folder on your Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM.
      2. Right-click on Cyrillic.inf and left-click on Install.
      3. If the installer asks for further NLS files, click on the Browse button and find them in the i386 folder.  Return to the Langpack folder when asked for the location of files again.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Download fbruss.zip from this site.
  4. Extract the installation package from fbruss.zip with a decompression utility.
  5. Run fbruss.exe to install the Russian ASDF keyboard layout.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Load the keyboard layout:
    1. Open My Computer, Control Panel, Keyboard and select the Language tab.
    2. Click on the Add button, select Russian and click OK.
    3. Click on the Properties button, select Russian ASDF and click OK.
    4. Make sure that Left Alt+Shift is selected for Switch Languages and that "Enable indicator on taskbar" is checked and click OK.

Windows 95, 98, or ME

  1. Install Microsoft's Cyrillic Language Support in either of the following ways:
    1. Install Pan-European Language Support with Internet Explorer:
      1. Find the Internet Explorer installer (ie*setup.exe) on your hard disk or download it from Microsoft.  If you have several versions of it then choose the latest version.
      2. Launch the Internet Explorer installer and accept the license agreement.
      3. Select the installation option that allows you to "customize your browser" and click Next.
      4. Scroll down to Multi-Language Support, check European Language Support and click Next.
    2. Install Cyrillic Language Support from the Windows 95/98/ME CD-ROM:
      1. Double-click on My Computer, Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs.
      2. Click on the Windows Setup tab and double-click on Multilanguage Support.
      3. Check Cyrillic language support, insert your Windows 95/98/ME CD-ROM, and click OK.
  2. Download fbruss.zip from this site.
  3. Extract the installation package from fbruss.zip with a decompression utility.
  4. Run fbruss.exe to install the Russian ASDF keyboard layout.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Load the keyboard layout:
    1. Open My Computer, Control Panel, Keyboard and select the Language tab.
    2. Click on the Add button, select Russian and click OK.
    3. Click on the Properties button, select Russian ASDF and click OK.
    4. Make sure that Left Alt+Shift is selected for Switch Languages and that "Enable indicator on taskbar" is checked and click OK.

Microsoft Office 2000 or XP

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Move the pointer over Microsoft Office Tools in Programs and click on Microsoft Office Language Settings.
  3. Select the Enabled Languages tab, check Russian and click OK.
  4. Leave your preferred language as it is unless you really want to change it and click OK.
  5. Click OK.
