Windows XP

[CJK]  [Home]

Windows XP is a Unicode-based operating system with its own CJK fonts and input method editors but sometimes you may prefer a third-party CJK enabler, especially if you need more input methods (e.g. Traditional Chinese Pinyin to Hanzi) or want to read pre-Unicode encoded documents without changing your default language setting.

Install CJK Language Support

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
  3. Click on "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options."
  4. Select the "Add other languages" task.
  5. Check the "Install files for East Asian languages" option and click on the Apply button.
  6. Click Yes when you are asked to restart Windows.
  7. Go to "Add other languages" again and click on the Details button.
  8. Click on the Add button.
  9. Select the language you want to add in the drop-down list of input languages.  You may also change the default input method editor in the drop-down list of keyboard layouts if you prefer another one.
  10. Click OK as many times as you are prompted to and then close "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options."
